First Grade Update, 05-10-12

Hello All!

Can you believe Field Day is just around the corner? It will be a fun day for everyone, and we are so excited! Here are just a few reminders about that day. First, be sure your child has sunscreen on, since we will be outside for a few hours. Secondly, make sure your child comes wearing their FWA field trip shirt and a swimsuit. Girls should wear one-piece suits underneath their shirt and some shorts. Boys should wear swim trunks and their field trip shirt. Thirdly, remember to send your child to school that day with a towel. It would also be a good idea to put your child's name on that towel, just in case it gets misplaced.

We also have our science fair coming up next week on Thursday. To those of you who volunteered for it, thank you so much! We could not do it without you.

Next week will be our last week of reading homework. The children will be returning their books to school the following week.

Blessings,
You First Grade Team

Hello wonderful parents!
We hope you all have had a good weekend. First, we want to thank those of you who have volunteered for the science fair. If we have enough volunteers, May 17th and May 24th will be so much fun for our precious students! However, in order to have the science fair, we need four volunteers for each of those days. Miss Klinke already has four volunteers for the 17th, but she needs volunteers for the 24th, and Mrs. George only has two volunteers. So, if you are free either of those days, please do sign up :) If you have any questions, please let us know. Have a blessed week!

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Can you believe our field trip to the Children's Museum is this week? The trip is Thursday the 19th . We are looking forward to it and hope that many of you will join us that day. If you have not sent your child's permission slip with $4 for the trip, please do so as soon as you can. The cost is also $4 per adult, and $8 to park. Students must pay in advance, and adult driver or chaperones must pay at the door. If you are able to drive or  would like to come as a chaperone, please let our room coordinators know.

Weekly update, 03-09-12

Hello everyone,
We hope this message finds everyone well. We want to remind you of a few things that will take place after spring break. We will be starting SAT testing the week after spring break. So, be sure that your precious child gets a good night's rest each night that week, as well as the following week, and eats a healthy breakfast each morning.

There is required information on each SAT test booklet that must be filled in for each student. Would a few of you wonderful parents be sooooo kind as to volunteer to fill that information out for us here at the school on Monday? It would be GREATLY appreciated!

We hope all of you and your children have a blessed spring break, and we will see your sweet children on the 19th!
Blessings,
Katie Klinke & Linda George

Weekly update 03-02-12

Hello Everybody!

Can you believe Spring Break is just around the corner? Time certainly does fly!

We do want to give you some friendly reminders; first, your sweet children will be going on a field trip to the bowling alley for PE on Wednesday the 7th. If you want your child to go on the field trip and you have not yet paid the $6 for it, please send the money with your child soon!

As for homework, parent signatures are required on ALL homework sheets, including math sheets. Also for the reading homework, your children already know to have you do this, but please write down the exact page numbers he or she reads whenever we have reading homework. We are so excited that your children are so eager to read, but if they happen to read a large nuumber of pages in one night ( such as 20 or more) please include a brief not that you actually sat with them and listened to them read with you. The purpose of these reading assignments if for the students to develop reading accuracey and fluency, and your sitting with them and watching them read will hopefully help achieve this goal.

Blessings,
Linda George & Katie Klinke

Hello everyone! We hope you are enjoying your day with your precious children.

We want to give you a couple of reminders: We just sent the book Kind and Brave home for your child to read at home every night 5 pages are assigned for reading homework. Please remember to write down the page numbers your child read in his/her white binder each homework night. When your child finishes Kind and Brave, please send the book back to us, and we will give your child another book to read at home.

We enjoyed our Valentine's parties and we hope you did too. We look forward to seeing your children on Tuesday, and we hope you have a blessed weekend.

Weekly update, 2-10-12

Hello everyone! We pray that you all have had a great week. We want to give you a couple of reminders. First, our Valentine's party is Tuesday next week in the afternoon. Everyone is welcome to come celebrate God's love that day :) Also, our Bible test next week will be on Thursday because we will have Friday and the following Monday off.

Another thing, if you are going over our math combinations with your child at home, thank you so much! The most effective way to practice these with your child would be to take combinations from the speed drills and practice them for five to 10 minutes every night. You may either make flashcards using these combinations or call a few of them out to your child. The key is practicing these combinations with them for just a few minutes every day. Starting Monday, we will be sending math sheets home with you children from time to time for them to do for homework . These sheets should take no longer than 10 minutes. Please sign them after you child has completed them and then send them back in their white binders.

We hope everyone has a blessed weekend and we look forward to seeing you at our Valentine's party on Tuesday.

Blessings,
Katie Klinke

update, 1-20-12

Hello everyone,

We hope that you all have had a good week. We want to update you on a couple of things. We just introduced the 10 addition family, so you might want to begin practicing that with your first grader at home.

Also, Mrs. George's class is still in need of a volunteer to teach Junior Achievement. If you are able to teach JA for her class, please let her know as soon as possible.

We hope you all have a blessed weekend :)

Hello Wonderful Parents,

It has been a good week in first grade & we hope you have had a blessed week as well. We hope you have a good weekend and enjoy your day with your precious child on Monday, since we don't have school that day.

First Grade Weekly Update

Welcome back everyone! We are so excited for what God has in store for first grade this new year!

Just  a few reminders, we are now practicing the 9 fact families. We are practicing both addition & subtraction for the 9 family; so whenever you and your children have a few minutes of spare time, please remember to practice combinations from this family. Also feel free to have them practice reading their favorite stories at home so they will continue to develop the reading skills they need.

Blessings,
Linda George & Katie Klinke
